Transavanguardia. La vitalità del contemporaneo
Exhibition curated by Alessandro Gea
From 2 June to 22 September San Marino hosts an exhibition dedicated to the Transavantgarde, an artistic movement that at the end of the seventies revolutionized the panorama of Italian art, still proving to be of great relevance today with themes related to nomadism, eclecticism and circularity.
The exhibition includes about fifty works by Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi, Nicola De Maria and Mimmo Paladino. Selected paintings and sculptures that offer ample evidence of the research carried out in the Eighties, in the midst of the Transavantgarde, also including more recent creations, which actualize, without denying them, the foundations of the movement, laid by Achille Bonito Oliva almost half a century ago.
The cardinal principle that connects the works on display is the primacy of the artist's subjectivity, which implements an individual and free research. What unites the authors on display, different in experience and language, is the desire to bring the work of art back to its centrality, rediscovering the pleasure of being artists, as opposed to a strongly ideological and political art. By making use of traditional means and returning to figuration, conceived as sign and color, artists arrive at a new form of expression, whose core is not logical and rational, but poetic and evocative.
