Liberation of the Republic Day and Feast of Saint Agatha
The Holiday that the Republic of San Marino dedicates to Saint Agatha
San Marino celebrates the Saint Agatha every year, patroness of the city of Catania and patroness of the Republic. The holiday dates back to 5 February 1740, when Cardinal Enriquez, sent by the Holy See, restored that autonomy and freedom that Cardinal Alberoni had tried to undermine in the previous months. Since then the anniversary is celebrated with a suggestive ceremony with a procession that goes from Borgo Maggiore to the Basilica of Saint Marinus in the Historic Centre of San Marino, starting at 14.30.
