Fattorie Aperte/Open Farms is an event designed to reconnect people, the local area and traditions, and to help families and visitors rediscover the value of conviviality and the authentic flavours of San Marino.

The initiative forms part of the Dalla Terra alla Tavola project, dedicated to promoting the country’s culinary and wine excellence.

Over two weekends, on 23 and 24 May and 30 and 31 May, Podere Lesignano and Ranch Francischin will open their doors, offering a rich and engaging programme suitable for all ages.
Visitors will be able to meet the animals and gain a deeper understanding of San Marino’s agricultural sector, rediscovering the direct link between production and consumption.

There will be plenty of activities for children, including educational workshops and hands-on experiences to help them explore nature and understand its rhythms and resources:

- Farm Animal Activities at Podere Lesignano
A visit to the farm where children can see various animals, including rabbits, chickens, peacocks, sheep, goats, pigs and donkeys. For each animal, the children will learn about its characteristics and main purpose, aided by information boards. The group will prepare the morning feed. The workshop concludes with activities involving the donkey: an introduction to the animal, rules of behaviour, feeding, cleaning the stable, grooming and cleaning the hooves, and a walk around the estate with the donkey.

- Farm Animal Activities at the Francischin Ranch
A tour of the ranch to learn about the animals reared there: Limousin cattle, Romagnola and Ragusana donkeys, and laying hens of the Anconetana, Livornese and Red Hy-Line breeds. For each animal, the children will learn about its characteristics and main purpose through information boards.
The children will feed the animals their morning ration. The workshop concludes with a hands-on session making burgers and sausages.

The highlight of Fattorie Aperte will be the grand Communal Lunch, an opportunity to gather round the table and enjoy the finest locally sourced produce together.
The kitchen will be open from 12.00 to 14.30, offering a selection of dishes specially designed for the event, available to choose from the menu (booking is recommended).
There will also be a bar serving a wide range of refreshing drinks.

Fattorie Aperte aims to combine education, taste and sharing, turning a visit to the farm into a memorable experience for the whole family.

The workshops and activities are open to children from nursery school to secondary school and are free of charge, with lunch included.
