New rides with the Treno Bianco Azzurro

The AB03 electromotive will be active on Saturday 13 April

The San Marino railway experience is back.

It will be possible to board the AB03 electromotive and experience the thrill of a dive into the past with an exciting journey through the Montale tunnel. A good 1500 meters of journey to relive the deeds of the Treno Bianco Azzurro, the railway that connected Rimini to San Marino, unfortunately no longer active since the bombing that took place in the summer of 1944.

The Treno Bianco Azzurro was a jewel of railway technology, which when it inaugurated its first journey – way back in 1932 – was able to distinguish itself for its innovation. In fact, while there were still steam generators in Rimini, on the San Marino - Rimini line there was the innovative direct current electric traction. In addition to this, in order to reach the San Marino station (643 meters above sea level) in just 53 minutes, seventeen tunnels (two of which are helicoidal), three bridges, three viaducts, an overpass and an underpass were built: an incredible work of civil engineering at the time.
