Saint Francis: Footsteps on Mount Titano

Spiritual Walk

On Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Spiritual Walk “Saint Francis: Footsteps on Mount Titano” will take place.

The walk will begin at 8:00  from the Church of Suffrage (Piazza Mercatale, Borgo Maggiore). The planned route includes crossing the Costa dell'Arnella, arrival in the City of San Marino, a stop at the Church of Meditation and Silence, a moment of reflection at the Church of Saint Francis with the communal reading of the Canticle of the Creatures, a visit to the Basilica of Saint Marinus, and a suggestive route through the three Towers of San Marino, with free admission to the Church of Saint Barbara located inside the Guaita Tower.

The return is scheduled for 11:30. The event offers an opportunity to bring together spirituality, nature and culture, celebrating the beauty of Creation and the memory of Saint Francis on Mount Titano.

The initiative is part of the rich programme of events promoted for the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi (1226–2026), entitled “Saint Francis and Freedom: 800 Years of Peace, Fraternity and Care for Creation”. The programme includes cultural events, conferences, pilgrimages, concerts, and philatelic and numismatic initiatives, all designed to celebrate the historic bond between Saint Francis and the Republic of San Marino.

During his journey, the Saint crossed Mount Titano, leaving a message of freedom, simplicity and peace — values that remain fundamental to the community today.

The entire programme of celebrations is supported and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, which has long been committed to promoting and strengthening spiritual tourism, also through projects and initiatives that enhance the network of Franciscan pilgrimage routes and the historical and religious heritage of the Republic of San Marino.
