Aurea Libertas Exhibition
A Century of Gold Coins in San Marino
The exhibition “Aurea Libertas. A century of gold coins in San Marino” celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the minting of the first gold coins of the Republic, the 10 and 20 lire of 1925.
That, although very important from a historical point of view, was nevertheless a sporadic issue and only in 1974 did San Marino resume minting gold coins denominated in scudi and, more recently, in euros, entrusting their modeling to great Italian and international artists.
Moments of San Marino history, famous people, architecture, works of art and universal values have been imprinted in the splendor of gold next to the emblem of the Republic from then until today.
The exhibition reveals to the public stamps, art models and author's sketches from which the gold coins of San Marino were drawn and amazes with the quantity of magnificent coins on display, all minted in the precious metal par excellence and which bear witness to the numismatic tradition of the Republic that has admirers and collectors all over the world.
