Borgo Maggiore and agrifood markets
The two best known markets in San Marino every Thursday and Saturday
The famous Borgo Maggiore market is a weekly ritual.
Hosted in the town every Thursday, in fact, from 6.00 until 14.00, this event has very ancient origins, as the first market we have news of was held at Mercatale (ancient name of Borgo Maggiore) in 1243. This tradition lasted for centuries, alternating with a variety of fairs, famous especially for livestock trading.
Today, you can find stands displaying everyday goods of all kinds.
Another local gem is the Mer.lo., the only local 0 Km food market where you can find fresh, seasonal vegetables, herbs, preserves, jams, honey, cheese and much more.
Every Saturday morning from 8:00 to 13:00 at the arcades of the historic centre of Borgo Maggiore.
Every third Sunday of the month, from March to December, Borgo Maggiore also hosts the Antiques Market, a very attractive opportunity for the curious as well as collectors looking for a unique item.
